Meet Me

I will be running a “Grass Roots” campaign that reflects my belief that the mayor of Portage should be a civil servant and not a politician. As your mayor, I will actively seek out the opinions of the residents of Portage and guide the city based on what the community values. I will respect the intelligence of the voters and run a personal campaign built on a foundation of experience rather than try to buy votes with Lake County politics.

While the incumbent raised over $106,000.00 to win her office, I will:

  • not accept donations – I believe in transparency of government. I want it to be clear that any appointment made or any new city contracts entered into have been awarded because the best qualified applicant was chosen, not because that person or company donated to my campaign funds. I want to leave no doubt about the motivations behind my decisions.
  • not seek endorsements – I will be talking to many local unions and professional organizations during the next few months. I want them to understand that they, as well as all Portage residents and businesses, will receive fair and equitable treatment when dealing with the city simply because it is the right thing to do and not because they gave me an endorsement or donated to my campaign.
  • not litter Portage with campaign signs – This is a personal belief. As my daughter’s Girl Scout leader I taught for many years to reuse, renew, and recycle. After an election, campaign signs are no longer needed, and like any other trash are sent to the landfill. I can’t justify creating so much waste with signs when directly speaking to residents is the better way of connecting with the community.

I am coming to you. I will be visiting thousands of homes of registered voters in Portage to find out what is important to the residents of our city. The incumbent mayor wants you to go to her. I am counting on YOU to be the difference on May 3rd, 2011. Donations, endorsements, and signs won’t win this election. YOUR opinion and YOUR vote are what can put Portage back on track and stop the incumbent’s Lake County political machine that doesn’t deliver on its promises.
