Fiscal Vision

My private employment and elected experience have given me the fiscal vision lacking in the current Portage Administration. I am eager to apply my previous city government experience to improve the quality of life for Portage residents while establishing a balanced, intelligent budget.

We, as a community, have the resources to maintain a high quality of life for ourselves and our families if we are smart about how those resources are allocated. Portage must not continue to be a credit card or grant dependent city when it comes to public safety and services. We must pay as we go and plan for the future.

My campaign focus is to eradicate wasteful practices within the city and utilize already existing resources to meet funding needs. I intend to evaluate all aspects of the current government and retain the people and policies that work for the benefit of the residents and replace those aspects and people that do not.

As the Clerk-Treasurer I have worked with the city’s budget for almost a decade. I know what services the citizens want the city to support and I know how much those services cost.

I also know how overstretched our budget is right now because of our overspending and current reliance on money we don’t have. We can make the budget work – without spending outside our means – but we have to be smart about how that is done.

I understand that every resident works hard for their paycheck and I believe that their tax dollars should be used respectfully by the City of Portage, for the City of Portage – not on incidentals or individuals.
